We used crayola markers. The black lines that were printed on the poster bled on to the white portions once markers were used. The black smeared all over and the poster looked so terrible upon completion that I will end up ditching it. I am sorry it didn't work out. I will make my own, using a black Sharpie marker on posterboard and draw my own design. Thank you for your efforts!

“When will I get to see you?” she asked, the button features of her face dully framed by the glass borders of an iPhone.
“I don’t know,” I replied, the words suddenly heaved from the depths of my body like I’d been punched in the stomach. She’d been in lockdown for two months. I had no idea, an ocean away, a similar fate awaited me.
In all of 2020 I never saw my wife outside of the confines of my phone; a false intimacy, its necessity underlined by the sheer cruelty of distance. The days dragged on. I stayed in place. I hoped against hope for some good news, but politics and pandemics kept her as far from me as could possibly be. Dragged her further away at times. But never bringing us closer.
I am loath to call what I went through “depression.” But that’s just me. The people who watched me disintegrate into loneliness and substance and distraction have no problem calling it that. But I’ve been lucky. I have family unwilling to let me slip through the cracks and a job that is dumb enough to keep paying me, thus when a whim and an intoxicant told me I needed to spend fifty dollars on a very large piece of paper, I had no problem doing so. Nor the mental capacities to talk myself out of it.
It arrived sometime later, folded instead of rolled. I was briefly angry at this, but discovered that I had carelessly chosen folded. Undeterred, I worked out the creases and began coloring. The curves and ribbons of the mandala pattern were daunting, but I began to find method to the madness. Jumbles of lines organized themselves into shapes, sharpening as if emerging from a fog. I became entranced, obsessed with filling those shapes with the vibrancy of color, colors that had been taken from me to create my gray, hopeless reality. “Come to dinner!” my family would yell. “I MUST FINISH MY WORK!” I’d scream back. They didn’t understand. No one at all understood. Each pencil stroke brought me closer, moment by moment, to my beloved. The inertia would soon carry her back into my arms.
That was July. I woke up three days ago and it was finished. I can’t have been coloring the whole time, that much is sure. But it is all I have to show for the time lost.
TL;DR: Pretty good use of my time but didn’t cure my depression or bring my wife back, 4 stars.
